Live a healthy life…

For over 25 years now I have been able to manage my weight pretty good. I decided that with a family history of heart conditions, blood pressure issues, and many other ailments…I had better get a grip on my health. I feel that since my mental health was fairly stable, I had a good chance. My brothers seem to have too many health issues lately. I do not want to take medications, unless it is a matter of life and death.

I have maintained a balanced diet. This is not to say that I do not “cheat” every once in a while! I manage to get in walking on a daily basis. I purposely park far from any entrance to where I am going. I use light weights on a regular basis. I love stretching. I embrace yoga and meditation.

I hope you all have a system that works for you. Without our physical and mental health in tact, what we can achieve is limited. Believe in yourself. Take charge of your life. Look ahead, not back.

Have a great summer. I will be around.

I do not get along with SNOW!

I have just spent a few hours outside in the cold. What was I doing? Well, how does shovelling snow sound to you all? I have a lot of respect for all of you out there who do this all the time because of where you live. I just have to deal with it whenever we decide to hit the snow1 I have to admit it is great exercise, but it is hard on the back. I will be heading home soon. Right now….gotta go. The snow is calling me.

I’M SICK OF IT…..a series of thoughts/questions I have …..4/14/12

When you go get something to eat at your favorite fast food place or your special restaurant and you are just exhausted physically and mentally, the last thing you want is to be served by someone who has been having a bad day. I mean, they do not even acknowledge you are there. They just keep talking to their co-workers on and on about who knows what. They are those people who do not smile or make any attempt to be nice. They are those that feel we should be serving them and they are just annoyed to be at their job. You know, those kind of people. Well, to all of you out there that have this personality trait, please get another job besides the one you have. It is so obvious to me that you hate you job, so why not accept that and move on. If you feel you can not move on, for financial reasons…then realize that it is not the fault of the person you are serving, so do not take it out on them. If you start a conversation with them and say that you are having a rough day, that would make it easier for the customer to handle. Be honest with your emotions. Do not radiate your disgust to an innocent party of people. Life is really too short. You need to see what will work for you and your situation, and you need to do the best you can…with a smile. It is better mentally if you keep a little of a positive attitude as opposed to a negative one..all the time. Switch it up now and then.

Just because you are not happy with your job, why take it out on the rest of us?

Are you like a CA Raisin?????…….

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I was reading in the Jan/Feb 2009 Weight Watchers magazine, the way of the California raisin. They claim that ” The balance of mind and body starts with the balance of diet.” Then they go on to list the nutritional values of the California raisin. I happen to agree, so I eat them myself. What I wanted to talk about is the fact that I agree with their claim 100%. When I first starting blogging, I was an author on Healthtips101.wordpress.com. My friend Jennifer talks about health issues on Healthtips101. I was hitting on the mental health side. I believe that your food diet affects your mind 100%! I think that the healthier your food choices are, the healthier you feel about life in general, and you are motivated to do more. I notice that if I get lazy with my diet, and start throwing in too many of those cookies I love, I start feeling angry at myself and then get bummed out in general. It takes me a few days to get back on track. So, I guess what I am trying to say is, watch what you eat. Make good choices from all of the food groups. Exercise, even if you just walk every other day, and get enough sleep. I decided over 10 years ago, that I would do this. So far, I have been able to keep my weight controlled where I am ok with it. Do you have any suggestions that might be helpful to whoever might read this post? Much appreciated.

Time to Get Out those “FAT” Jeans….ugh-)*

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Well, it happened. I was getting dressed this morning and had to scream in the process. It took me a few minutes to gain my composure, but I managed. I went to put on my “favorite” pair of jeans, and THEY DIDN’T FIT right! They were more snug, than usual! Then I did the blaming thing. I blamed it on the fact that I left them in the dryer too long. Yeh, right! Then I tried the water logged excuse! That did not fly either! So, I just sat there for a second remembering. I was remembering that day, not too long ago, when I was trying to decide if I should give away some of the “older” clothes in my closet I did not wear anymore. I did not wear them anymore because I had LOST weight, and they were too big. Well, needless to say…I am glad I held on to my “FAT” jeans. It is that time of year when they come in handy, huh? Lucky for me, I had a few to chose from! Ha Ha Ha So, I put them on and forced myself to smile over it, even though I wanted to let out one of my famous screams again! ( check it out on My Crazy Videos page). I also made a decision then. I decided I was not going to spoil this holiday by getting depressed or angry. I was going to remain calm, decide to keep eating what I wanted for the holidays, and then after the holidays…do what I always do and GO ON ANOTHER DIET! I can not ignore the fact that this seems to be the way it has been for MANY years! So, I just laughed about it and I will figure it all out LATER!

Try to eliminate as much stress
from your life as you can.

Get plenty of rest.

OR ………..You can take the doctor’s approach to getting a flu shot……….
Think about it…
When you go for a shot,
what do they do first?
They Clean your arm with alcohol …
Why?
Because Alcohol KILLS GERMS.
So…….

I walk to the liquor store. (exercise)
I put lime in my Corona …(fruit)
Celery in my Bloody Mary (veggies)
Drink outdoors on the bar patio..(fresh air)
Tell jokes, laugh….(eliminate stress)
Then pass out. (rest)
The way I see it…

If you keep your alcohol levels up,
flu germs can’t get you!

Jokes for Health….

I don’t exercise at all.
If God had wanted me to touch my toes
He would have put them up higher on my body.

One of life’s mysteries is how a two-pound box of candy can make a woman gain five pounds.

I’m in shape. Round is a shape.

Diets are for those who are thick and tired of it.

Desperation is a fellow shaving before stepping the scales.

Let the Sunshine In……

I recently read an article in the July/August 2008 Weight Watchers magazine. I agreed with a lot of the statements they made. I would like to share some with you. In a recent New York University study, a fellow at the nonprofit Environmental Leadership Program by the name of Patricia Zaradic, Ph.D. said, “ Nature acts as a buffer against life’s stressful events.” I agree 100%.
The article goes on to say that just by working in your garden for 45 minutes , you can lower your blood pressure and heart rate. Nature relaxes you and helps you breathe more calmly and slowly. It also goes on to say that your brain produces serotonin which helps in boosting your mood.
It mentions that you can help guard against osteoporosis by getting 5 to 30 minutes of vitamin D-rich sunlight as least twice a week. They claim that by exercising outdoors, you will feel less bored and be more likely to stick with your program goals.
So, the next time you get up in the morning and see that sun shining into your bedroom window, get yourself out of bed, smile, and take on whatever the day throws at you with a little more sunshine and a lot less stress!

Be sure to go to Healthtips 101 to see what Jennifer added to this article, it’s cool!!!!
