Welcome to American Girl Place Los Angeles……The Grove

Located in The Grove, one of California’s premier shopping destinations, our Los Angeles store features girls’ favorite shops, private dining, and so much more.”

Well, I went here this weekend. Let me tell you, it IS the place to be if you have girls. I had never been to this store before. I was quite shocked. It was a bit disturbing for me. The place is loaded with dolls. They all have names. They all have a book that comes with them and tells you all about them. They come from all walks of life. They all have different outfits to compliment their era. They are loaded down with all kinds of furniture for THEM. Their items cost more than those I would use!!! They have bath tubs, strollers, desks, horses, guitars, bedroom sets, tea sets, kitchen appliances, makeup centers, you name it…they carry it. I wish I were the owner of this store!!! How do they make the money to cover the rent? We figure it cost them about $150,000 a month for the rent!!! I can only imagine the profit this place makes. The dolls cost about $5.00 to make, but they sell them for over $100.00 each.!! My friends daughter has 5. All of her school mates have about the same, or more! Wow, crazy huh?

We had a very nice dinner there. They gave each table a birthday cake and extra treats for the birthday girl. It cost my friend $35.00 each for the kids and $24.00 each for the adults. I think my friend spent quite a bit this year for her daughter’s birthday! We all had fun. We all got to spend time together. My friend is not ever going to do this again, so once is fine. We had a lot of smiles from the girls. That made it all worth it.

Afterwards we walked around The Grove. It is a real happening place. Lots of places to eat. Lots of activity in the streets. Lots of great shopping. Lots of coffee places. They are also near the Farmer’s Market. I was exhausted when I got home, but I was very glad I went. It was very nice of my friend to include us in the celebration.

If you are ever in LA, be sure to visit The Grove.

Believe in Yourself;

“GIVING THE BIRD”….STORY*

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I never knew this before, and now that I know it, I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends in the hope that they, too, will feel edified. Isn’t history more fun when you know something about it?
Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous English longbow was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as ‘plucking the yew’ (or ‘pluck yew’).
Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, See, we can still pluck yew! Since ‘pluck yew’ is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodentals fricative F’, and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute! It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as ‘giving the bird.’
And yew thought yew knew every plucking thing

Get Rid of that Attitude……it’s UGLY!!!!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So many people are so into themselves, it is not even funny! While I was out today, I ran into them EVERYWHERE!!! I mean, it is fine to be self confident…but, when you are in love with yourself, for the wrong reasons…come on! I have no problem with people who are confident and secure with who they are…I am one of them! I do have a problem with someone who abuses other people, emotionally because they THINK they are “secure with their persona,” but they are obviously not! It is a dead give away that you are not ,when you find it necessary to treat others with no respect or dignity! So, my point is…if you want to sit on your high horse…fine, but stay away from me, cause I will let you have some attitude! Don.t let me catch you putting anyone else down, either!

You will remember Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island . Well, she demonstrates the technique in the video.

Peeling the cooked potato has always been the least desirable part in making a potato salad.

Check this out! Peeling a cooked potato couldn’t be easier!!! Enjoy.

How long does it take you to run a mile? If you do not run, just imagine you did, and guess!!!

GRANDMAS……….*

I know that you all are not yet Grandma’s, but this is good to know for when the time comes.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I was out walking with my 4-year-old Granddaughter. She
picked up something off of the ground and started to put it in her mouth.
I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.
‘Why?’ my Granddaughter asked. ‘Because it’s been on the ground; you don’t
know where it’s been, it’s dirty, and probably has germs,’ I replied.
At this point, my Granddaughter looked at me with total admiration and
asked, ‘Grandma, how do you know all this stuff? You are so smart.’
I was thinking quickly. ‘All Grandmas know this stuff. It’s on the Grandma
Test. You have to know it, or they don’t let you be a Grandma.’

We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently
pondering this new information. ‘Oh…..I get it!’ she beamed, ‘So if you
don’t pas s the test you have to be the Grandpa’.
‘Exactly,’ I replied with a big smile on my face.

Thanks Kristi!!

Carrots……….you want to read this! *)*

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This is something I didn’t know! The small cocktail (baby) carrots you
buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed
carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into
cocktail carrots. Most people probably know this
already. What you may not know and should know is the following:

Once the carrots are cut and shaped into cocktail carrots they are
dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them
(this is the same chlorine used your pool) since they do not have their
skin or natural protective covering, they give them a
higher dose of chlorine.

You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator
for a few da
ys, a white covering will form on the carrots, this is the
chlorine which resurfaces. At what cost do we put our health at risk to
have esthetically pleasing vegetables which are practically plastic?

We do hope that this information can be passed on to as many people as
possible in the hopes of informing them where these carrots come from
and how they are processed. Chlorine is a very well known carcinogen.

Please let us make this information available to as many people as
possible. If you care about your family and friends, pass it on.

This is the link to snopes, read it and make up your own
mind! http://www.snopes.com/food/tainted/carrots.asp
Thanks for the information…Linda!!!
